So, I'm working on another sword, and I thought I'd share. This one is somewhat inspired by khukuri, so I'm tentatively calling it a kuklass. Blade is 16", it's about 23" OAL, made from 5160. I experimented on this one with using an angle grinder to make some freehand fullers, and it actually turned out reasonably well. I need to think about how to position it more precisely. I made some wood handles for this, but I may end up going with some micarta instead. The gouges you can see actually didn't come from grinding; those appeared after I ground off the scale; came like that from Aldo. Oh well.

Sending this one off to Darrin for heat treat, hopefully.

Any one have any suggestions on whether I should cover the guard completely with scales, or leave them open? How about finish?

Cool concept. I vote for scales covering the guard.
The fullers look pretty goo, too.

What's the blade thickness? I'm guessing 1/4" with a distal taper. Looks like a great concept. I'd like to see more picsafter you put the micarta scales on.
Thanks for sharing this wip.

You got it, 1/4" thick. I've been thinking about grinding out a few more blades before I send it out for HT, but I may be too impatient (plus, I learn something from each blade I make, so maybe the others will improve somewhat). More to come!
