Hi I want to get one kukri about 12" blade.
I´ll use it for hard work so I´d prefer forged steel and fulltang and no cosmetic touches.
Price tag $50-$60.
And a final question, which is the use for the nochets that the most kukries have in the blade near of handle.
Anyway where can I get one ;) ?
Thanks

Welcome, faca:)

You've come to the right place for your khukuri. HI makes they absolute best khuks in the world. Sounds like you need either a chiruwa (slabs on tang style) Ang Khola or WWII villager model if you aren't going to use if for show. Don't get me wrong. ALL of HI's blades are pretty much 100% ready for work. Trust me, any of them that you get will outlast you;)
I might suggest that you read the FAQ and all the other pages on the HI website. It's good reading. Also, be sure to read the safety sticky at the top before you handle a khuk. they'll bite ya pretty hard.
Uncle Bill, the absolute best guy in the world, runs this place. Every so often he'll put up his DOTD (Deals of the Day) here in the forum. it wouldn't be too uncommon to find a blade in your price range at that time. They are mainly blem specials where a little rust has pitted the blade, or the wood of the handle has cracked just a tiny tiny bit. They are still 100% ready to go:)
Unfortunately, Uncle Bill is a very sick man at this time so the DOTD might be a bit hit or miss for some time. Just keep your eyes peeled:)
The notch at the bottom of the khuk is called a cho. the real reason why khuks have this notch is kind of a mystery that has been lost through the years. One thing is for certain. If it ain't got a cho...it aint a khuk;)

Once again, welcome!

or from time-to-time, deals of the day are shown at this Forum. However, the owner is seriously ill, and it is unlikely any will show up with any frequency in the immediate future.

The "notches" is called a "cho" and there are wide-ranging ideas as to its purpose. It may be cultural, it may have been practical at one time. These days, it is mostly cosmetic.

Good luck.

Be well and safe.

Welcome to the Cantina!

There isn't much to add to the above replies--but you might want to be aware that we usually measure a khukuri's overall leangth in a strainght line. So, if we are discussing a 12" AK we mean an Ang Khola style khukuri (a standard chopper) that is 12" (in a straight line) including the handle.

in spite of what you may see on ebay, the cho is NOT a sighting device for throwing the kukhri (throwing NOT recommended), the two little knives that come with them are NOT torture knives (except for our forumite member bruiselee), are NOT used for removing eyeballs. they are 1. karda - a small sharp utility knife 2. chakma - an unsharpened but hardened 'steel' used for steeling an edge back to perfection &/or striking sparks from a flint to make a fire....and the kukhri does NOT need to 'drink blood' every time you pull it out of the sheath....

There's No Business Like Cho Business -- Lyrics

There's no business like Cho business
Like no business I know

Everything about it is appealing
Everything the traffic will allow
Nowhere could you get that happy feeling
When you are stealing
That extra bow

There's no people like Cho people
They smile when they are low

Yesterday they told you you would not go far
That night you open and there you are
Next day on your dressing room they've hung a star
Let's go on with the Cho !

(You're humming along with Kate Smith, aren't you?) Hah !

I miss sometimes with one & two cho-ed khuks, but never with this one.

Ad Astra :D  :D

(khukuri parody. not to be taken seriously or internally. see safety thread. never throw a khukuri, no matter how many of the dang things you have, or how severely you are provoked)

people who throw khuks generally end up with the nickname Stubby, or Lefty, or Flattop, or Suzy (depending where it comes back and hits em;))

are you SURE????
i'm sure some kukhris might make exceptions for certain people, a gross of assorted band-aids & antiseptic on hand along with a proper tourniquet & haemostats is always a good thing to have to hand. if possible, always carry a licensed medical practitioner. the inflatable kind is NOT highly recommended tho. kukhri's are well known for biting, they just don't need to do it all the time. get to know your kukh, treat it right & it will love you for a lifetime (& only bite furriners & townies)

What ranges are those cho calibrated for AA? I've been working on a folding leaf express cho system that I think you pro khuk-throwers will love!

*again, you should remember two things: a)no, you don't throw a khuk
b)you should not take us to seriously--things get a little...uh..."punch drunk" in here at times!

Welcome Faca,

The only thought I can add is that a 12" khuk, in actuality, isn't that big of a knife. If you are really looking for a workhorse for chopping, you might want to consider a 16" Ang Khola or WWII model.

edit - OK, I just reread your post, and you did say 12" blade, which would be about a 16" knife overall. Note to self - wake up and pay attention..

Only in Kukri Land is a knife with a 7.5" x 1/4" blade described as "isn't that big." :D

Faca- you said the blade was to be 12"
That's going to give you an overall knife length of 18" or so. My favorite length, but is that what you want?

welcome, btw.

That's because you guys don't use em' right. Check out my medals. You don't get an ICQ medal for just sitting in front of the keyboard. I'm a bonafide internet hero.
 ;) :barf: :)

And besides, he controls dispensations. ;)

Yeah...but watch out...he sells indulgences that don't always work. I got one for the lottery and only won a measly *half* a million dollars.

I want a refund...

His name will be known to all...that's for sure!
