Many thanks for any input here

I can see that there are about four (?) variations with some obvious differences like handle shape and size...... But ultimately what is the difference between the models and which is the preferred choice and why?

Assistance and Pics are much appreciated!

Lawrie.

It depends what you want to use it for and your physical attributes.

I myself use a 15" sirupati for camping. For chopping, the bigger the better.

I've read that nepalese (sp) makes the best kukri's.

HJ, I believe OP was referring to the Busse takes on kukri.

Lawrie,
TTKZ & KZII have different blade shape and different handles. Then there was a Proto model... If you look up threads started by Knifehunter, you should be able to find a thread where there are pics of the 4 that you mentioned (about 2 months ago?)

Thanks HwangJino!

Just to clarify, Busse Kukri's like Killer Ziller, KZII, Test Team and so on.

Cheers.

Thanks elof-alv,

I do vaguely remember Trevor's thread.....

Any idea which is the preferred (most popular, valuable) on the exchange?

Lawrie.

Here is a pic of the TTKZ the PROTO and the KZ2

the difference between the blades are bigger than you might think, the KZ2 is the lightest of the 3 and the Proto is the heaviest but i think they feel about the same, the TTKZ feels much more blade heavy than the other two.

KZ2 : 32.0 oz
KZ PROTO : 37.6 oz
TTKZ : 36.4 oz

I did a chopping test on some frozen wood with the KZ's in this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-MOAB-some-KZ-s-and-a-RH-vs-double-bitted-axe now that summer is here and the trees are no longer frozen i will l do the test again as soon as i find the time.

Member last visible canary has done some very good threads comparing the TTKZ to the KZ2. Search is your friend.

Several of us have noted that the edge geometry on the TTKZ was poor. The edge was too thick and a detriment to efficient chopping. I sent mine back for Garth for reprofiling (ususally I do it myself, but this was an expensive piece and I wanted to preserve the warranty) He thinned it quite a bit and is now much improved.

I have the KZII. The edge angle, particularly toward the tip was pretty darned robust.

I mention it, because I have a belt sander, and it only took a few minutes to fix that.

If you are sharpening by hand it would take longer.

The TTKZ is the best of them all because the grip is superb and sorting out the edge to what you want is all part of owning Busse's. The KZII has a grip which does'nt easily lock your hand in for chopping ... it is a very long grip which can cause your hand to move about when chopping ... the blade was thinner and more of an ideal shape though ... so if you sort out the grip to one which suits you then that works too.

On the whole ... I would go for the best grip and sort out an edge to what works best.
