I was wondering if anyone out there has already purchased one of the origional kukris from Atlanta Cutlery. (there are several other kinds from the same armory, as well as antiue british military guns- look around) I was wondering what kind of quality they were? Specifically, heat treatment/hardness.

Also, in the latest Blade magazine, they showed pictures of piles of swords from this same deal. Anyone heard when they will start selling the swords?

Uh oh, do I see a future story involving one of these? :D Oh wait, I don't think you're the same guy that butchers racoons and stuff with his large bowie knives, are you? :)

Edited for brain fart.

Actually Wade, I am the guy (or at least one guy- I haven't crossed paths with anyone else who hunts coons like this, though several hunt boars with knives.) who chases coons with a big Bowie. Though I've never actually 'butchered' one for eating purposes. Maybe 'butchered' in the horror movie sense, but not for eating. :D

I do not currently own a kukri for a couple reasons, but have always liked the design for a pure chopper. I need more of a point on my big knives for stabbing, and I need a blade far quicker than every kukri I've handled. I also don't have any stinkin' money right now :grumpy: but still make mental notes on good products for when I do.

My wife bought me one of the Bhojpures from AC for Christmas and paid $10 extra for "special selection". When it got here the tip was broken off, the cutting edge was chipped, the bolster was loose, and the wood handle was cracked about half its length on top.
In fairness to AC, that may have been the best they had left at the time, but it certainly was not my idea of special selection.
Just FYI, insist on a good one if you order one, if they have any good ones left. Others here have had better luck.

Ah! Then I wasn't lossing my mind. :) I checked your profile and I didn't see the link to your site full of coon hunting tales. :) So I thought you weren't the same guy.

Wade,
Here's a link to it if ya care to check it out again. I haven't taken much time lately to add many updates. One of these days....

I generally only provide the link when I feel it's relevant to a current discussion, and also so I can provide a clear warning to those who might be offended by the idea of hunting animals with a big knife or gun. (consider that your warning this time, tree huggers! :p ) the possum's coon hunting page

Sorry to hear reports of spotty quality on the Kukris. :( Guess that means I'll just stick to my old, and severly limiting, rules. Don't buy squat until I get to handle it first.
