Hey,

Im new, My name is Michael and I'm Australian.

I was thinking of buying this Kukri from Khukuri House...

1. Is it trustworthy?

2. Is this a good Kukri?

Ill probably be using it as a collectors piece, But with a little bit of work as well.
No chopping or anything.

Heavy?

Thanks,

Michael

Before you buy anything else, you ought to give Himalayan Imports a look. I have one of their products and it's a great khukuri.

In the Manufacturers part of the forum, they have a section of their own. Do yourself a favor and check it out. :)

A few of us did a group buy a while back, one knife had a problem and they replaced it no questions.
chopped a bit with mine and it worked well.

Yeah, Himalayan Imports is a little pricey for me at the moment, But I have seen it.

Tinbasher, Was it a nice looking kukri?
Nice wall hanger?
Was it shiny silver?

Thanks for the quick responses

Go ahead and check Ebay too if you want a wall hanger.

HI doesn't make pure wallhangers, decorative pieces yes and some of the carved pieces the kami's have been turning out recently have been jaw dropping. Always worth an email to Yangdu himimp@aol.com to see if she has something your looking for.

You should verify how much the shipping will be from KH. That can tip the scales. I remember shipping to me in the states was like 40-45$ US. What they sent me wasn't a very nice khuk, either.

Take your time to follow HI sub-forums! Read other sub-forums as well and you'll find out that HI pricing is actually below the pricing of custom handmade knives anywhere :) Follow the DOTD threads in HI sub-forums and make a grab there  And yes, email Aunt Yangdu of HI and who knows she might has something you want

Being in Australia, The shipping from Nepal is around $27-34.

But yeah, I'm sorry guys, HI is really out of the question. At the moment, I want to start my collection with a cheaper, but still a nice khukuri.

If I decide that they are my thing, I will purchase a really nice HI one.

From KHHI, Does anyone have any suggestions that are under $50?

Thanks,

Michael

There are very few cheaper Kukris in general. Those that are cheaper but are well made, are users, like the Cold steel machete and the Kabar Kukris. What you're looking for doesn't really exist, unless you want to get a cheapo dedicated wall hanger off ebay or some other fantasy blade website, but none of these will hold up to use.

Thats about the closest you'll get, full tang construction so it has a chance of holding up to a bit of use, but as I recall the fit and finish on my friends is not the best, but you can always clean that up yourself.

Thanks mate, on the contrary, I believe all the khuks look good, I pretty much just want with a nice shine, I'm leaning to the World War kukri...
