I favor HI but was looking at KH and this caught my eye. Looks like a Nepalese version of a WSK and the price isn't bad. At the very least it would make for a good conversation piece, but how would it fare as a survival knife?

If it were me I would buy a 12" Ang Khola from H.I. Same size as most of those things and far more functional. Plus you get H.I.'s considerably higher quality.

 this outta be good. I like it, I have been checking out their stuff for a while, I havnt bit the bullet, but, maybe soon. I love all my HI stuff, and I dont see anything out performing them, so , its more for the smaller size, and more ergonomic handles that Kukri house puts out...thats what interests me, anyways.

Other than the saw back I dig it. I'd like to know what the thickness is on that bad chicken.

haven't seen it specifically, but generally, any knife maker who puts a saw on a blade...is doing more marketing than creating a functional tool.

IMO.

KH will make anything you want pretty much. Tell 'em you don't want the sawback and they'll make it without, and if they mess up, they'll make it right.

I'm not sure I get the point of that sharp transition between the two cutting surfaces on the blade. Conversation piece seems about right to me.

Then again, the only HI kuk I own is so obscenely thick and dull that it is basically a conversation piece too. A $15 machete out chops it and is lighter to boot. I know many people love their HI knives, but the one I own has kept me from buying any more.

The sawback doesn't really bother me, at least not in this case. The angled back allow you to hammer without the "saw" getting in the way. I may be wrong, but I always though that kind of sawback is not design to be an effective cutter but to be effective "notcher."
