Just got the Jan 2004 issiue of Blade. It has a big wright up on the khukuri with mention of H.I. The Ka-Bar khukuri is on the cover of the magazine. It is not a bad looking blade and looks very usefull but not a true khuk by a long shot! Read up boys!:)

New BLADE just came today. That KA-BAR looks funny! Probably the distorted close-up shot, but still... The khuk article mostly just talks about a whole lot of nothing. None of those khuks (except the antiques) look to be very tough. I doubt those stainless production "kukris" are even a quarter inch thick. But there's a picture of Nara at work at his forge--one of the pictures from the HI website--and it's the only interesting thing about the whole article.

I have bladeforums. I see what I want, when I want it, and learn how to do it in the process.

I pay because it is the right thing to do, and I LOVE THIS PLACE!

I dont need no stinking magazine...(well maybe if I wanted a larger list of makers in their ads, but I think I got enough in the 'for sale' forums to keep me broke for quite awhile.)

Well I just thought I would pass it along. Blade has some good stuff in it and some not so good stuff. Information is always a good thing. It can educate you on things and does it really matter if you read up on knives online or a magazine??? I think not, knife talk is knife talk! Next time I'll keep the "khuk" articles to myself.

Thanks for heads-up Chris. Next time I'm in the big city I'll look for a copy.

Chris we're living on two fixed incomes now and have been for over a year. The Blade and Analog are the only two magazines I have kept and intend to keep.
I agree the man's articles weren't much, but to someone who knows nothing about kukris it's a plethora of information!!!!
Some of us here don't remember when we were ignorant about kukris.;)
I wish I knew as much about computers as I do kukris now, maybe I need to find an HI Komputer Forum ainnit? ;) :D

Yeah I also wish I knew more about these computers! All I get from mine is trouble! I remeber back in the mid 90's or so when Blade did a whole write up on Himalayan Imports. Bill was so excited and sent me a letter as to when it would hit the news stand! That was a good khuk article! Had nice pictures with it and I still have that issue some where in the basement.

Yvsa, What do you think of Tactical Knive Mag? Did you ever read it? It also has some junk but usually has a good story or 2. I only buy it when it has more good stuff then I can skim at the store in 10 minutes!:D

Didn't mean to squash BLADE with that post, just pointing out the info-lacking nature of the khuk article from the POV of a khuk lover. I've got a BLADE subsciption and love the magazine. Had it ever since my grandma got me the subsciption last year for my birthday. Hope she renews it this year!

Chris I have bought a couple of copies of Tactical Knives as well as the fancy, what is it, Knife Illustrated or something?
They're both all right, but Blade is generally more consistent time after tiem and has more and better articles generally than any other knife mag.:)

Sam, don't worry about it. A lot of the time I would agree with you, but like I said above, it's still the best of the genre IMO.:D

I bought one of my grandsons a subscription last year for X-mas and intend to do it again and again until he loses interest or that I get too poor to afford it.
Anything to have another knife knut in the family, although my first and oldest grandson is sort of into knives and guns and archery and outdoors, fishing, hunting, trail riding, anything as long as it is outside. I wish my li, oh hell, I wish they all lived closer so I would get out more!!!!:D

It was Tactical Knives that got me started with khuks. Not an HI article either, the one by Dr. Ron Hood on the now defunct other guys. Anyway, there was an ad for HI and the rest is history.

It was a very basic work that was intended not for anybody with HIKV. It almost seemed(Okay- fairly SCREAMED) like an infomercial for Atlanta Cutlery's haul from the Royal Nepali Armory. I know Hank Reinhardt has quite a reputation for his knowledge and accomplishments in the edged weapon worlds, but I feel like he's compromising his credibility. He's been a pitchman for years for AC and Museum Replicas(I think they're the same company). Many of their items come from Windlass SteelCrafts in India and have a poor reputation for quality.
Just my thoughts
Oh, yeah
Been an avid Blade subscriber for six years now
