Last night I decided it was time to clear the area infront of our kitchen window from snow. There's allways the danger of moisture damage when snow packs beside the wall and warmth creaps through the wall and starts melting the snow.

I thought it was pretty much now or never. If I didn't do it now, the task would become nearly impossible with more of snow packing tightly and temperatures changing.

It took me allmost 1,5h to hack and and shovel this pathway under our kitchen window. That pile was 6ft high and rock hard until the bottom 1-2feet. They had dropped blocks of snow from the roof few days earlier which had made the pile even tighter and harder. And larger :thumbdn:

The tool of the day, CS kukri machete. Shovel only was useless. The edge dulled pretty fast and the handle would start to roll in my grip when the edge would not bite well. I was a bit lazy and only gave the edge only one quick redo with a file. Should have done it more often, but lazy is what lazy does. Still, the kukri handled the task well. I treated it with a coat of oil afterwards :)

Holy crap that's a lot of snow!! I thought we were getting snow here but compared to you guys this is just flurries! LOL
Nice job with the kukri. I just bought one of the cheaper $19 Cold Steel models last month. The blade is about as sharp as a marble so I've got more filing/sharpening to do on mine.

I bought the spendy CS Gurkha Kukri last month, and it is sweet no doubt, but I'm thinking maybe I should have gone with a basic CS Kukri and saved about $130.

i bought the cheaper one and oh boy this blade is NOT sharp ... and never sharpen it cose the others machete/goloks I ordered got to me too soon :D
(ESEE Lite machete, condor golok, etc..)

Naah, we don't have THAT much snow. Plenty, yes, but the pile and the framing of the picture gives false impression.

I've been thinking I'd like to try a Kabar Kukri Machete, read some good stuff about those.

I went with the cheap one so I'd have an inexpensive backup machete if I didn't want to risk damage to my ESEE Lite Machete in certain situations.

It seems decent enough but I have to read up or look for some YouTube vids on sharpening one since I've never had to sharpen such a dull blade before.

I have to admit I spent ten bucks to have my local knife guy sharpen mine, a nice wicked convex edge.

When you wanna move that Kukri outta the bunker, let me know.:D

i have a snow saw, much more efficient for that sort of thing :) then you can move the blocks and have igloo.

not sure i'd use a khukri... heh. good job. looks fun.

I could never get good edge on my Cold steel khukri. I have the fifteen dollar one like that. Tried convexing it but is didnt do so well...
