Morning all!

Just wanted to know if anyone has any good solutions to keeping the kukri from falling out of the scabbard, mine seems rather loose in the scabbard and the leather at the opening is getting cut up a fair bit from sheathing/unsheathing.

Is it possible to keep it from falling out upside down? :)

I have found that you can tighten the opening of the sheath by glueing some leather into the opening along the sides. I have also used a loop of either rawhide shoelace or 550 cord attached at the back of the frog and loop up and around the khuk handle and tighten up using the spring cord locks. Those two combined and you should be in good shape. Good luck friend.:D

i'll echo what the others have said. Gluing in some leather seems to work very well. It's also not a bad way to enter the world of leather bending. Loose scabbards were what got me to try my hand at making my own sheathes. While my work ends up looking like it got in a fight with the ugly stick and rolled down a flight of stairs, it's got excellent fit and is tank-tough.

Fun way to make your khuk your "own":)

The traditional scabbards may tighten and loosen in response to environmental conditions like humidity.

I'm not sure of the wisdom of carrying a khukuri upside-down. If it gets loose it's likely to sever something on it's way to the earth.

I gotta agree with Howard on this one. FF, carrying the khuk upside down is asking for trouble, and I strongly recommend that try another method of carry, lest someone gets injured. For some more incentive, looking at the upside, some people like loose sheaths, because it allows for quicker deployment. Guess it's all up to you and your preferences in the end though.

I don't think it's a matter of carrying it upside down - have it on your belt and then lean over to pick something up would put it at a severe angle and a knife loose in the scabbard *could* fall out.

thnx for the help fellas;

I'll try it out once i get my hands on some leather, I;ve tried using paracord around the handle, it just gets loose again :( anyway I'll try it with the leather.

With the sun soaking thing well; really hate to dry out the leather and doesnt look like the leather can make the wood any tighter but even if it did theres still 3-4 mm of space and the handle still rocks back and forth.

I don't actually plan on carrying it upside down but seeing how I;ll probably need to pick stuff of the ground and need my hands free it would be peace of mind if it could be held securely ;)

Good luck with your sheath mods. If they don't work out, check out the leather benders here on Bladeforums for help with a new sheath. There are a bunch of nice guys here that can help. :)

I have to wholeheartedly recommend Heber for your leather needs. If I ever need anything beyond my own ugly work, he's the guy I'm calling.

Thanks Jake!! I really need to start sheathing more of my Khukris. :o Chubbybear just did his first sheath for a large HI blade. That man also does good work, so does Dwayne AKA Leatherman at Armoralleather. I have 2 of Leatherman's folder sheaths and they are nice!
