Earlier today I was playing about with my kukri machete and noticed something about it. When I wear the sheath on my belt and try to pull the blade out, even with both snaps undone it still tends to pull the sheath right along with it, making the draw very awkward and hazardous to try. This happens whether I wear it on my strong side or weak side. Unless I use both hands, one to draw and one to hold the D ring on the sheath, it doesn't work.

Do any other KM owners know a secret to a smooth draw?

I unsnap the retention straps and then tilt the blade forward, towards the open slot of the sheath, before drawing it. More of a forward than straight up-and-down type action. Once your sheath loosens up a bit it'll be easier, but I can draw and sheath the blade with one hand no problem. I hope the way I worded things makes sense.

I think I know what you mean. Strong side wearing, unsnap the sheath, move the blade into the 1 o' clock position, and then draw it out?

Yep. It's still sort of goofy, that's what you're gonna get with a blade that size and shape and the type of sheath they made. I also like to carry mine crossdraw.

Alright I'll ask. How do you carry yours cross draw style? Better yet, how do you carry it that way, and avoid it sliding about?

Heh. I just put it on my left side, so it's backwards on my hip. It'll still slide around, but I try to loop it behind a belt loop so it doesn't slide to my front. That's all. I don't mind if it moves around to my back, I can just pull it back around.
