kukri question

only one is a knife used for applications the big blade is to big for
the other is for straightening the edge like a butchers steel

Some come with a great many more tools than two---small awls, chisels, files etc. The Swiss Army was not the first to think of having more tools with you than just your knife. ;)

KARDA is the knife for skinning, wood shaving and do-it-all where the big knife is too large for the chore.
CHAKMAK is the steel for sharpening, de-burring. Villager model often has filed surface so you could clean off the edge fast.

Some even come with awl or the whole Nepalese SAK like little saw.

Thanks I wanted to get a gurka style but I didn't know if it was a stupid gimmic to try to sell garbage knives

If Andrew's sig is "Why's everything you wear so sharp"....Mine's gonna be "
Why would you even think a design of 1500 years are indeed a garbage?"

A khukuri if made to your dimension may just be a wonderful soulmate.

I think it was less a case of dismissing something than simply wondering if a particular example of it was anything more than a gimmick---have to learn before you can know. Similarly, though I know that samurai swords can be superbly made and have a long, distinguished history, I also know that there are a lot of junk versions out there.

One has to distinguish between authentic Khukris and Khukri-like-objects (KLOs).

An authentic khukri typically comes with the 2 additional blades, as described. These will also have spine thicknesses of from, 3/16 - 1/4 - 1/2 an inch. The design is more like 4000 years-old.

KLOs may have the khukri outline, but don't function nearly as well as well-made and sharpened khukris.

Yes i agree. Some Katana are so valuable they would rather trade the Okinawa island with you.
