Hey everybody I just orderd this kukri saw knife and I was wondering how the hell can I sharpen this thing if I ever want to I don't plan on sharpening it because it is a fully serrated saw blade if you wana call that serrations... but I don't know.. what would be the best way to go about that...?

Not sure what knife you're talking about, but serrations are usually sharpened using ceramic rods.

Does it look like the top knife, or bottom knife?

Self defense

Ok, I'll assume that you're very young. There's a number of problems I see with your knife and it's purpose.

#1- It's very big, and I say that as someone who digs big knives. Do you know if there's a legal blade length limit for what you can carry where you live? You'd better find out or you could get yourself into a legal jam that would haunt you the rest of your life. Even if it is legal to carry, how are you going to carry something that size?

#2- The design kinda leaves something to be desired. Making deep cuts into a knife's edge doesn't make a saw. Real saw teeth are set out wider than the blade so they open a channel wider than the saw blade. Those teeth are narrower than the rest of the blade so it won't make a wide enough channel to act as a saw. If you try to slice with it like a normal knife blade, those teeth will snag and stop instead of cutting. If you try to chop with it, the teeth are likely to bend or break. Basically, all they'll accomplish is make it so it can't really do anything well.

#3- Knives are generally poor choices for self defense. You have to get close to use a knife, aside from the obvious risks that presents, it might make legal problems more likely if you ever have to use it. Also, if you don't have training in some kind of knife fighting technique, you're just going to be flailing wildly. Something that heavy will be even more difficult to control. You'll be almost as much danger to yourself and bystanders as to an opponent. If you're determined to use a knife for self defense, get the training and that will dictate what sort of knife you should carry.

Sorry to wizz in your Wheaties, but that's how I see it.

I have no idea what those edge teeth are for, either. But, to the OP's question, it looks like you'd sharpen the edge like any other recurve. Those are not serrations that would require a special technique. The inner curve (concave) would like a narrow stone or a curved stone. The outer curve (convex) would take any stone.

It doesn't look as though the inner curve close to the handle will do much cutting, so mostly you're going to be dealing with the outer portion of the blade. Raise a burr on both sides of the edge with your stone. Remove the burr with ever shorter, lighter strokes.

Yeah, i would sharpen it like any other knife. This knife is almost as good for self defense as a smatchet.

.... Your knife would be more than effective for self-defense. I have studied and practiced fencing and knife fighting since I was a child. My father is a knife fighter with an impressive amount of experience with many teachers. He felt it was necessary to pass it down to my brother and I. It could literally be butter knife dull and would cut. Young or old the best weapon is the one you have available to you. When it comes to sharpening you could use a tapered rod and a ton of patience. I couldn't imagine you using it for anything but novelty/ last ditch weapon so I would imagine it will never dull?

Sir, I mean no disrespect but do you have any experience with hand to hand or bladed combat? I would imagine he is not going to carry it. (I could be wrong) but rather keeping it in his house. He would be in no legal quarry here in Texas where a man has a right to defend his house and family with whatever is available. Excluding illegally modified weapons. (short shot gun, modified automatics, ect). I don't think he wanted to be patronized. A knife is more than effective. Especially in close quarters.

For what it's worth, the thing/idea kinda inspired me, so I modded one in photoshop. I think it'll do more damage that way (Before/After, the front would be sharp top and bottom, same with the thick spike blade at the bottom):

Make sure and duct tape it to your hands when you go into battle!

Perhaps I did come off a bit huffy on the subject. I didn't mean to come across that harshly. However, he wrote self defense, not home defense. I took that to mean he intends to carry it. Most new posters who post about a self defense knife do indeed intend to carry it, regardless of the size. That can lead to serious legal trouble in some places.

As far as "hand to hand combat experience" it's limited to run of the mill, stupid fist fights of my youth, some in places I probably shouldn't have gone to in the first place. In the parking lot of one of those places, I watched a fight where one guy pulled a knife on the other guy. The guy who pulled the knife went home with a split lip and bloody, possibly broken nose and the guy who had the knife pulled on him went home with no cuts and a new knife in his pocket. Knives can be effective in close quarters. So can being flat out faster and stronger if they can reach you.

Not young I'm a knife collector... have been for 15 years I have extensive self-defense knowledge... also I grew up in the hood fighting almost everyday...where? Richmond, california look it up... I own many kukri.. and other knife but never had to sharpen a blade like This... this will! be my next carry knife i switch a knife almost every day just like my guns...well guns are different i own my ccw...yes it' legal to carry where i live look up california knife law we can carry swords here no problem the police are down with it too they carry big knifes also the littlest I've seen carrying a microtech which is still pretty bad ass they really dont mind. now obviously if you're wearing a sword they're going to look at you crazy and probably pull up to you... but that's about it... i carry ether a 8 to 10 inch knife at all times on my belt with my pocket knife which is a kershaw blur on my waist i rarely switch that... thx to the ppl who answerd my question. and the other ppl... I'm glad I could inform you about my life...and educate you about california knife law... oh and by the way I have a horrible vocabulary and poor grammar so if you're planning on trying to get on me about that there's your answer.
