kukri & sheath?

Welcome ironmike86!
Yes, they come with a traditional sheath,Chakmak(burnisher) and Karda(small knife). They come "Field Sharp" usually, more or less. Sometimes sharper sometimes a little less sharp. I have found mine are plenty sharp enough to chop.

On rare occations a deal of the day will come up without a sheath but it's not common. Some people like their knives razor sharp some do not, all the kurkris I have received have been fine for anything I want to use them for, other people seem to need to sharpen every one they get, I guess it comes down to what you concider sharp.

Thanks. Shaving hair is sharp to me. But I was just wondering if they had an edge at all?
I never bought a Kukri and there are alot of cheap ones out there from China. I know these are quality from Nepal?? So I'm giving them a try because I like the way they look. I'm not concerned about the sharpness just wondered if it had any edge at all. Where can you find Deal of the day?
TIA

They generally don't come shaving sharp, but for a chopper you don't necessarily want it that sharp. You can find the DOTD's (Deal of the Day) here on the forum. DOTD's are usually blem stock at good discounts, not all of them are blems though.
The Khukuri are made from 5160 spring steel, are differentially hardened and have a full convex blade.

ironmike86, these are not the unhardened, no edge $15 Pakistani specials down at the surplus store. They are the real deal and they come with a "serviceable" edge that is already "set" right. If it isn't already it can be brought to shaving sharp with sandpaper and a mouse pad in a few minutes. The DOTD's are good to go and if you are concerned Auntie Yangdu has a proven history of making things "right." My understanding is that the next batch of DOTD's will probably be without sheaths because of "quality" control issues that have been addressed. Poor sheaths = new head sheath maker. They decided to send the steel instead of waiting for the "pants" the Sharks are starving and need to be fed:D

Hmmm

and I have an order of leather coming in with some supplies. Methinks I might have to snag one of these naked wonders and give it a new set of pants:D

I feel like one of those guys that preaches reloading to shooters, but simple leatherwork can save you a boatload of money and gives you the satisfaction of making a knife "yours".

If I can do it, ANYONE can. I promise.

Jake, I'll make you a deal. I'm going to take a private class on sheath making before the end of the year and I'll use one of my Khuk's for my project piece. When I'm done I'll share the tricks I've learned here and if we have a mid-west chop/chop I'll do a sheath making demo.

I've talked about the reasons I can't (and I'm not gonna again)... but I wish I could because it would be cool to make something exactly like the picture in my head for once. That is my big frustration, trying to describe what I want exactly to the person I get to make sheaths for me.

Tell me about it.

I think I'm going to have to spend the cash and just work at it until I can make what I want.

Warty, bring a sketch or something if you can on Tuesday. I'm expecting to pick my leather stuff up in Louisville by months end. I'd be more than happy to try my hand at something. Also, i might be able to fashion a necker for the NAA while I'm at it.

shortwinger* shoot me a PM or an Email with you city & state and I will shoot you a few leads.

So just to be CLEAR. The DOD is when they make a post that they have them. Then first come? I f I like the knife I would want to miss out in the future deals:D

ironmike86, on the DOTD there is some discussion as to post first or email Yangdu first. The email is what counts, the post lets other people know its probably gone and bragging rights.
shortwinger, go here and find the store closest to you. Most have classes especially SCA, Old west gun holsters etc. and ask about a class for knife sheaths. Usually they set the price for the class and you pay for the materials you use.
