I have an old WWII Kukri from england that my cousin gave to me, when i got it about 6-7yrs ago. the top half was covered in old duct tape, i took the tape off. Lo and behold there was a smaller sheath attached to it, the leather was made out of a strip of leather wrapped around a bunch of times, and inside there were these two smaller pieces of leather.

now i dont think its a sheath for the karda and Chakmak because there are small slots inside the large sheath for those so what are they?

thanks for the info, but what are the points of the flaps on the side?

were they just used as a container for tinder or were they like sacrificial bags of tinder because they have a strange smell, almost flammable, like they were soaked in animal fat, or oil

or it could be that it was animal fat/oil to make it more water resistant

Some tinders are enhanced by the addition of petroleum products, Some tropical plants used for tinder are quite aromatic as well.

Yangdu on the Himalayan Imports forum in the Manufacturers forums section can probably fix you up with a chackma and karda.

I sent an email to Yangdu but some folks at the HI subforum said shes going on a trip for a bit so idk when ill be able to get them, thanks for the info though, those flaps still confuse me
