Photos Kukri

Getting late in the evening here in the States. We do have some members who know quite a bit about them, but you may need to wait until they drop by.

Pretty standard villager type kukri. These are better than the really bad tourist versions as they can do actual kukri work, but still cheap enough to not to break the bank when buying them a souvenirs. The little metal tool is an edge burnisher and fire striker. The little knife does little knife things. I'd put it as post WWII - 1980s.

Do you have any insight into the insignia

After checking more I have to disagree with the typical village Kukri from the eighties. The insignia is from apparently the ka ba battalion so I ll keep digging

I wouldn't put too much stock in that little brass "insignia", it could just be a decoration that someone added. That motif, a feathered crown (Shripech) over crossed kukris, is not uncommon, and has been used for costume jewelry in a number of variations. A few examples below.

Since such decorative items are available in the US, I would assume they are even more common in Nepal.

The badges mean nothing, except that someone attached a badge to it -

All post WWII tourist kukries with all sorts of badges. On the case of the plaques, they'd change the badges to the ones you liked for $2.50-5.00 a badge depending on quality.
