I'm thinking of getting a Kukri from the kukri house:confused: have any of you guys ordered from here before? What can you tell me about there knives ? I'm looking at the Jungle model. Any info would be great !

Coaldigger, KH makes fine khukuris. They are serviceable with fair to good fit and finish. Also, the prices can be quite tempting. However, keep in mind that a 40 dollar khuk from them is going to cost you maybe 30 bucks to have shipped. Also, these things are handmade so "oopsies" can happen from time to time. If your knife fails, you're going to have to ship it all the way back for replacement.

I would check out HI. Yangdu Martino runs the business stateside where she gets her khuks from the shop in Nepal delivered to her in Reno, NV. That means that those of us in the CONUS have someone that can warranty our blades without the expensive shipping. She's great to deal with, and shipping is SUPER fast. I see that you are in KY. Expect maybe 3 days from order to arrival from Yangdu:eek:

Where you get it from, you owe yourself a khukuri. There really isn't anything else like 'em.

The jungle model that I'm looking at is $30.00 + $15.00 shipping = $45.00
The British service model from HI is $100 + shipping , The British model from KH is $39.00 + $15.00 = $54 .
It will take 25~30 days to ship they say.
If I can find a used one in good cond. I'll go that way just to try one & see if I like 'em first.

Good on ya, CD:) I hope you really enjoy your khuk. As long as they aren't the crappy ones beat out of pot metal from India (which KH certainly AREN'T), you'll get more than what you pay for a khuk.

If you want any more general khukuri information, you might check out the HI forum on the boards. You might even get lucky and snag one of Yangdu's "Deals of the Day".

Check the deals on HI. I got my BAS for 60$.
(I'm totally sold to HI and don't even try to hide it)

I have bought a couple dozen HI khuks over the years (though I haven't kept them all, sold some, gave others to friends/family) and I think I've actually ordered from the website twice--nearly all were deals of the day, and often about 40% off. The one time I had an issue with a khuk I'd received, Uncle Bill, may he rest in peace, had a replacement out to me before I even got mine shipped out to him. Yangdu has continued to run the business in an extremely fair and upright way. A very select few outfits have equal standing with HI in terms of customer service as far as my own experiences, and none better.

Well I just ordered myself a khukuri from KhukuriHouse . I got the Jungle model w/ 10" blade. It should be here the end of this month ( I Hope). I'll let you guys know when I get it.:D

I second that motion.. HI have great khuks for the price, and shipping is extremely fast.

Now you'll have to buy a HI to compare. I know you will ;)

I have one of the jungle models along with 3 or 4 other kukris from Khukuri House. All are first class knives and their service straight from Nepal was reasonably fast. Prices seemed very fair too.

How was the finish on the jungle model ? How thick was the blade?

this is a post I posted awhile back on s.o.m. forum...

I just recieved 2 khukri's i orderd from the Khukri House in Nepal last week, they are made from recycled truck leaf springs.

Heres a link to Khukri house: http://www.khukurihouseonline.com/

it was my first order from outside the U.S. and everything went smoothly.
the top one is for me, its called the Chitlange and is made with a rosewood handle.
the bottom was ordered for my roomate, its called a Panjawal, made with water buffalo horn, also finger grooves seem to be rare on khukris

sorry in advance about the picture quality.

its very hard to see in this pic, but my roomate and I took advantage of their FREE engraving offer and i had 69NINJA put on mine (top) and he wanted COONDAWG on his and they spelled his wrong!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA! they spelled COONDAWJ, after the 3 long weeks of eagerly waiting, he looked so sad when he saw it, but i'm evil so i had to laugh. besides khukri house IS going to send a replacement so he'll have 2, one for show and one for use.

this pic just shows how friggin thick the blades are thats a dime next to it to compare. (wait, its Canadian?!? well you get the point)

I got an E-mail from Khukurihouse saying they received payment ($89.04) for Jungle x 1 ?!?!?!? I paid for 2 of those Jungle models !!!! I sent a reply to tell them to check the order , I paid for 2 of those ! If they charge me for 2 (which they did $29.99ea + 14.99ea ship + $5 handling) & I only get 1 They will never get another penny out of me :grumpy:

Even though the price is right, it looks like khukrihouse makes a habit of screwing up orders. I wonder how they do with producing knives.

KH does have its issues in their shipping department. Honestly, before I bought my first HI in 2002 I had sent an email order to KH because the pricing seemed so much cheaper. I was a poor college kid at the time;) Luckily for me (and unluckily for my bank account) they never got back to me and I had the pleasure of dealing with Uncle Bill from HI instead. Never looked back after that.

To be fair, KH is operating half a world away in a language that is not their native tongue. It can be frustrating for everyone involved. That said, a goof up is a goof up. They do run a little less than HI unless you get one of Yangdu's Deal of the Day. But, the cheaper price comes at a cost of potential frustration regarding ordering.

I hope they get this straightened out for you soon, CD. Good luck, buddy.

I got a reply from KH today * GOOD NEWS* They said that they were very sorry for the confusion but it was just a typo era on their end:p They said that the order was for 2 of the Jungle models & that I should get them in about 3 weeks or so:thumbup: They were very humble about it w/ no questions ! We will see in a couple of weeks.
