Heavy D-Guard Kukri
I get a lot of requests for these but it's a bugger
to make. I can make at least two other designs in the
time it takes for one of these.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

Very cool - really like the shape of the cutting edge.

What's the blade steel?

The lines on this are incredible. That extra little drop at the tip, the defined transitions in all the lines... This is one of the best takes on the khukri I've seen.
Very cool.

Very nice!! What are the specs on the blade steel and overall size?

The overall is 19.5". The 1095 spring steel blade is
13.5" X 2. 5/8" X 1/4" thick.
The guard, bolster, and pommel sides are 1018 steel
WELDED in place. The handle is 5. 3/4"
long with scales of curly maple. There's a full 5" of
finger space in the D-guard to handle big or gloved
hands nicely. It weighs 2 lb. 9 oz.
I make them with a smaller handle to.

I really like this one... I'm a fan of the kukri blade and really like your take on it.

How do you do your heat treat on this one?

Drop me a PM and let me know how much you charge for making one of these... so I can start saving my $$ :D

Heat treating. After the blade is roughly beveled it's fired to a dull
red glow along the edge and quenched in strained used motor oil.
I use test pieces to judge times and depth of the glow.
The idea is to get the edge extreemly hard while the spine lags behind
slightly.
To tempor the edge it's slowly heated till a file bites. This gets tricky
on large curved blades with varying bevels.

These will sell in the $ 400. range same as most of my larger pieces
depending mostly on my impression of the finished product.

The list of people to contact when I have a knife available is getting
to long to continue using (the knife sells before I can finish emailing).

I'll be listing knives here for sale as I finish them.

I just don't know how else to do it as I don't want to take orders
on knives.

Not a fan of d-guards, but I really dig the overall profile of the whole thing. Nice work!

I don't know if I can post in this section (if I can't, I apologize), but I'd like to know if you would consider forging this kukri with a bit longer blade (say, 18 in.) and a longer tip
(it would be like a falcata, the ancient iberian sword).

Thanks in advance

Very nice piece! Definitely one of the best takes on the Khukri I've seen.
