I'm sending these off to Terry Sisco to complete the Nepal-Lapland cultural fusion with deep-pouch dangler sheaths.

Bill - Before you run out and buy another scanner, try getting a sheet of "magic blue construction paper" like mine. Have the scanner do its thing at 300 dpi, default contrast (auto contrast goes berserk with some mostly-black subjects) and color correction setting. Get some cheap Corel graphics package that has Corel Photo House 3 in it, and use that to edit your scanned images. I can tell you from there what I do with the editing and touch-up functions.

Then we can all get to see a good scan of that antique ivory khukuri set you have under the bed or somewhere!

Another "Oh MY Gawd!!!"
I can hardly wait.
You could make a collection of just these knives!!

I have found that a light blue background makes better pix from a camera as well. That was recommended by the people on the Ethnographic Sword Forum I believe.
If you gather it up a bit to create shadows it makes some plain, less ornate knives stand out even better.

Mine came today. Great little knife.

The scabbard slips out of the frog, but otherwise this is just a super rig. The carved handle is really nicely done, and the feel in the hand is great. Even the edge was fairly well sharpened.

James is right, a puukko style dangler sheath would be perfect.

I'll have to bug my bro' Brian to do it for me. Oh Brian.......

Well since Blues go his today I figured mine might come as well.
And it Did!!! Along with a nice village model!!!
And mine is different as well!
It is beautiful!!

Thanks James for being such a gentleman and like Blues, I thank you as well Bro.!!!!
cool.gif

Like Blue's mine is nicely distal tapered going from 0.200" at the bolster to 0.130" at the top of the tip bevel. The 0.130" is only 0.005" over 1/8"
I took mine to the workroom and put my trusty file on it. The blade runs from the point at about 60 Rc, the file "skates" across the blade to a little over half way back ending up about 57 Rc.
That's a nice hardness and well tempered. It is now shaving sharp.
Even with a dangly sheath I won't wear this one in public as I wouldn't want it confiscated. I will stay with the Marble's Woodcraft for daily carry.
biggrin.gif

The 17" village model comes in around 57 Rc and like Uncle Bill thinks, and I have to agree with him that the kami is left handed as it is harder on the left side of the blade. With this hardness it should be one Tough cookie and very easy to field sharpen with a file if need be!!!!
Steel boster and butt cap that almost looks like what I imagine a chainpuri handle would be like with a well rounded butt cap.
This'un is goin in the truck!!

Bill,
RECIEVED MINE ALSO,looks like the one on James pic. 2nd from the bottom. I HAVE THREE OF THIS Kami's knives & none of them are bad! Bill are you "sure", Bura is the best!
I think Kumar can give him a run for his money!

Gee, see what can be missed when a person is away for a bit -- improved Kumar Kardas, Snow Leopard, 18" Kasar AK

. Anyway, these are beautiful & I've already logged myself in for one of the next batch.
I'll have to bug my bro' Brian to do it for me. Oh Brian...
You've got mail, bro.

Cheers,
Brian

Increase that blade length by 4" and that will move to the top of my wish list!! Any chance of a full view of the sheath?

Thanks

Oh man where was I that I missed something like these to sign up for? I've always wanted one of Kumars kardas and it's like this is a kick in the butt. So put me down for one of the next batch if they're not all spoken for, and if James is sure he wants to keep all of his.

Don't worry - I'm not going to use all five as a personal steak knife set. They're going to Terry Sisco for some "puuukko style" deep-pouch dangler sheaths, and then the four that I'm not going to carry now and then go up on my web page at a price to be announced.

I have another "Nepali Puukko" project or two in the planning stages too, for weeks or months to come.

We have to catch up on the current model before we start modifying.

Daniel, you are logged.

There is a view of the scabbard posted by Blues. It is not much and I don't see how one would use it really effectively for carry purposes but James has that problem under control with his danglers.

Yvsa, did you make a special scabbard to carry yours? If so send a pix -- I can use another couple of days work getting it posted!!!!!!1

These would be even niftier if they did the bolsters as small "khukuri style" bolsters with the sloped brass in front, instead of the simple brass bands around the front end of the wood.
