Kumar Karda or JKM-1

I've had two JKM-1's and currently have a Kumar Karda + I'm housing my sisters KK also. Both of my JKM-1's were 1/4" thick or thicker near the handle, sharpened prybars and thats what I used them for. My KK's are thinner and more handy. I have seen and played with JKM-1's that were thinner, but never owned any. The old school carved handled Kumar Karda's were my favorite. The newer non carved ones are also nice, especially the ones with curved handles. :)

Do to my experiences with the two over the years, I'd be more inclined to buy a Kumar Karda over a JKM-1.

so what is the thickness on the kumar karda?
BTW one of these is gonna be my first Himalayan imports blade!!!

I have a Kumar Karda by Tirtha and I find it to be a very useful general purpose blade. I absolutely love the carved handle. That and the knife's size are what drew me to it.

I can post some detailed pictures over the weekend but I can tell you now that mine is 1/4" thick at the bolster and tapers down easily to 3/16" and then to just over 1/8" before going down to the tip.

My hands are large so I would not have minded another 3/4" or so of handle but it still works out fine.

I have a KK and a JKM. The KK sharpened up beautifully on some sandpaper and is a very useful knife. I actually liked the look of the JKM, but for whatever reason I've never been able to get it sharp.
