Kumar Karda or JKM?

I've decided that I need to add a JKM or KK or both to my collection. Mainly for hiking, camping, etc. It's hard to judge size and feel from pictures. I'm sure that I will end up with both but am a little strapped for money right now. Any opinions or recommendations on which one to start with. Also, preferences on carved wood or stag handle.

If the sharks let you get one, you can't beat the JKM price. My KK is everywhere but here :D , a pretty good sized knife. The JKM seems a good bit smaller for everyday stuff.

The real answer is you're gonna get both, so which one do you want FIRST.

I think that's a given!

If it helps, the Kumar Karda is pretty much a belt knife.

The JKM can fit in many pockets.

Check local carry laws in your state.

and yeah. you need both. sorry. :footinmou

I use a JKM-1 as a hunting knife and a KK as an all-purpose outdoors/camp knife. I think of the KK as a "Kabar on steroids."

I have small hands. I like both, but the JKM is a 3-finger handle, even for me. Here's a comparison.

I agree with everything said, the JKM handle fits 3 fingers, the KK handle fits 4. The KK is probably more versatile, I'd start with that one.

How about a new special order HI hunting knife: a JKM sized blade, with a longer handle like the KK?

Steve - You are spending too much time refinishing handles. I can see the grain in your fingers.

Or...one more coat and it should be done! ;)

Seriously, get both. I did and I cannot stop smiling... :D

I thought I was going to be disappointed because of their size (12" to a HI affecionado is puny) but boy was I mistaken.

Buy them both, try them out for your camping/hiking needs...both can serve that need well, but it is a matter of preference.

I am ALL IN SUPPORT for a 12 inch JKM or Kumar Karda!!!

(Now, back to my smiling...).
