I never knew just how large the Kumar Karda was. It's really a beefy handful. Here's mine next to the ubiquitous Kabar. Made by the Amtrak kami (RR) ,it's 10.5" long and about 7/32" thick at the spine. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a small (by HI standards) belt knife. Thanks Uncle Bill!

Bobwhite sent me an unmarked "Villager" style KK over in Afghanistan, figuring it would make a good field knife. He figured right. Only problem is that the average troopie has to be taught how to use a knife properly, or they'll wind up with cut fingers using a guardless knife. Does me no good to tell them that amongst cultures that carry and use their knives daily, guards are a rarity usually reserved to knives for children.

Here's what they did way back when for a big karda. The steel beneath it is the old style of chakmak that was with the kukri.

I've got one just like yours, Steve. I named it the Kumar Kabar. It's nearly as big as the 12" sirupati, with a better handle. :)

Very interesting. If someone happens to have these two, and time to take a pic, would love if I could see one compared to one of the latest batch of 12" Villager AKs that we all just got. Thinking I might like both of these out camping, ie one on belt one strapped to pack.

I should have jumped on the KK deal when I had the chance. You snooze, you...well, you try another day.;)

Those little (and not so littler) villagers we've been getting lately are just about the best knives I've handled. Rock-solid workers.

Thank you very much Raghorn, don't have a Kabar around anymore(well, I should, but got me if I know what happened to it), so this was a helpful pic.

And definitely think I need to pick up one(or three) of these when money allows.
