Hi guys
I got an 18in Kumar Kobra in from Uncle Bill the other day and though you might like a few initial impresions.
First off, this is my 6th Khukri. (2 HI AK's 15 & 18in, one of the first Villagers Bill got in a while back, and 2 GH khuks). Having used both of the AK's extensively I have become used to both their weight and inertia when in use.
When I was handed the parcel at the post office I suspected Bill had messed up and not actually included the khuk in the parcel
this thing is light, especially compared to the AK's.
First impresions: WOW!!!!!!!!! about sums it up. The blade is just beautiful, slender and almost elegant in profile. It has a 'cross-hatch' patern marked down the length of the blade which give it, to my eye at least, a 'scaled' appearance, suits the name Kobra perfectly. Its also marked with Kumar's 6 pointed star.
Far and away the best looking khukri that I own.
The balance point of the blade sits about half-way between thecho and the curve in the blade.
The sheath is fantastic, very solidly stiched with heavy leather on both the body and frog. As a bonus the sheath has some very nice decorative working on it. This shows a bird of some type (Peacock, Eagle, Phoenix?) in flight. The sheath fits the blade very well, holding it securely but still very easy to draw.
I have only had a brief chance to use it. If my Ak's are axes, this thing is a machete. Light, fast (both to get it moving and stop it without strain on the wrist).
I doubt some of the bushes in the back-yard will evre be the same after my trial run
the Kobra easily cuts through the lighter branches that an AK would tend to 'push' aside plus it will whip through heavier stuff with ease.
All in all a very class act.
Thanks to Uncle Bill and Kumar for a first-rate piece of steel.
