i was looking at leuku's and it took me a moment to remember the large kumar kardas and JKMs here.

anyone have anything to say about em? comparison to actual nordic puukkos and leukus would be appreciated if you have em. i have none of these blades.

thanks in advance.

Well I don't have any of the "real deal" puukos, but I would imagine that the HI versions are going to be traditional in blade shape only. They generally come thick and have a convex edge on them.

That said, the JKM and KK are some of the most handy and useful knives that HI offers. I have never handled the KK, but I have had half a dozen JKM's pass through my hands. Sharp, mini-pry bars that will cut quite well.

Hi Magnum22,
Over the holidays I hoped to have the JKM-1 by Ram with a Montana elk antler handle for me-self. As a neck knife.
My wife fell in lust with it and absconded with it.
It is the JKM-1 from 12-21-07-Last Day Of Christmas Specials.

It Has a 1/4"spine at the handle, 1/8" at the tip and is 7 and 7/8" long, 5 oz.

It is wonderful, I have been using it to skin a few gift haunchs of venison this week, it is thicker than the usual leuko/scandi blades, no kidding!, but she holds her edges fantastic and has that 13 degree angle that allows you to direct your cuts, precisely with your pointer finger. AND, not only are the scales pinned and glued on, it has a wonderful pommel that has a peened over tang-end, the best of both worlds.

Hope this helps, I use it as much as I can get the jewel of a knife in my hands...

I have a Karda that Dan Koster convexed for me. I'd compare it to a leuku.

With the thinner blade profile and distal taper the weight is now closer to that of a leuku.

hmm, that's cool. i think i'm gonna take one of my kardas to the garage and grind it down on the belt sander, see what comes out.

I love the handle on that one Magnum. I need to fix up my kardas one of these days.

standard villager karda, came with my first him imp. BGRS. that khukri rocks, i hit the bullseye on the first shot wit that purchase.

i didn't do anything to the grip, it was really smooth out of the box for a villager.

i just remembered your masterpiece grips. maybe when i get more practice grinding i'll send you somethin to put a handle on.

i just did my first grips on a sak, you may have seen them on WSS.
