Kuntao Videos

Thanks for the "heads-up" on the set. A few of quick questions:

1. Do these videos "stand alone" in the sense that you can pick up any particular one and work with it or are they based upon a progression so that you need to start with #1 and work your way through them in order?

2. Do they assume any background in Filipino Kuntao or can someone with no experience (in Kuntao) work with them reasonably well?

3. How long is each video?

Thanks in advance. JRF.

The first three Hand to Hand tapes are designed to work in progression. The 2nd set of three are blade, stick, and edged weapon survival. These are meant to work in progression as well. The tapes are designed for anyone interested in Body State and Intent training, so a background in Filipino arts or Kuntao is not required. Each tape is about 1 hr. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for posting. I just posted a question about your Paladin Kuntao set. I´m interested in picking up a few Kuntao skills via video/training partners (no qualified instructor in my area, at least I don´t know any).
Could you compare the new Tacsafe series with the Paladin series? Is the same material covered, where are the differences, which would be more suited for beginners (I do have a a bit of FMA weapons background), different teaching method perhaps?
Are the new weapon tapes (#4 and 5) Vee Arnis Jitsu techniques, or are they part of your Kuntao style?
Thanks in advance.

The principles covered are essentially the same.

The diffrences would be the progression of the techniques. This series offers more specific strikes, locks etc....
The Paladin tapes would be suited more for beginners.

Are the new weapon tapes (#4 and 5) Vee Arnis Jitsu techniques, or are they part of your Kuntao style?

Tape 4 and 5 covers information that I learned personally for Prof. Florendo Visitacion but because of my background, he sanctioned me to presnt them with variations and expressions from my experiences.
Thanks in advance.
Thank you!

Hey Jim;
E-mail me when you get a chance!!

Could anyone explain in more detail what is on the tapes available from Paladin?
What techniques, what drills, etc.

No matter which set of video's you get, you cannot go wrong with Rick Hernandez's videos. He was a personal student of Prof. Visitacion of V Arnis fame. He moves well and brings across the concepts well, a good teacher. A better bet would be to get "hands on" lessons...but well...that's what videos are for!
