Just finished my first kwaiken.
Steel is suminagashi with white paper core,handle is oak burl and brass.
How do you like it?










 
Oh nice! I'm glad you decided to post it! Sheath ideas??? Maybe a brown leather sheath died lighter than the handle... Or black :)

I have some ideas I'll send you... Other ideas would be welcome too!

Traditionally, kwaikens often served in a defensive role. Although unlikely to be used for this purpose today, with this handle shape there is alot of room for slippage if the handle was wet.

For this reason, some makers use ito wrap which affords the hand a natural secure purchase. Others use a single finger groove towards the heel of the knife that enhances grip stability.

That said, your design is cosmetically flawless. The grind of the knife looks perfect and the aesthetics are top quality.
