Ive been on a search for the perfect everyday knife for a while now, and it probably would be the Squire. Its durable, sharp, thin and compact, good looking... just wish it was easier/quicker to open one handed.
I would like to avoid drilling a hole in the blade, so i am looking at the kwik thumb stud/bar. I wish the bar came in stainless steel rather than brass. So im thinking of getting the kwik thumb stud, in stainless. Has anyone put one on a buck squire before? I see that the measurement for the thumb stud is .40". Will that stick out alot on the squire? To the point of it getting caught on my pants? The only pictures i can find are of it on a 110, and I dont have a 110 to compare the size to the squire.

After no replies i figured for $7 shipped its worth finding out, and if its no good for the 501 im sure ill eventually find a use for it.
It arrived today and i must say im very VERY happy i got it. Here are my notes for "stainless steel kwik thumb attached to a buck squire":
-It was quick and easy to install
-Feels securely attached
-Sticks out maybe a millimeter further than the width of the handle. Not even enough to have the stud showing through my pants pocket or get caught on the pocket.
-Looks *almost* like it was meant to be there. Doesnt make it look funny at all IMO
-It is now easy to open one-handed- just as easy as any of my knives that came with a thumb stud
-I think this is now the perfect EDC for me: pre-existing good looks, fairly "sheeple friendly", small for easy pocket carry, and NOW one handed opening! I am happy :)

I don't know anything about thumbstuds on a Buck 501, but hope it works out for you. I have the same knife and I'm happy with it, but I open it with two hands.

The 501 is so nice, I don't want to thrash it in pocket banging into change, etc. I have my doubt whether the sheath would accommodate the fit.
I also like the ease of the KTS. Ah well! :p
