I noticed this knife on the Spyderco web-site and like the looks of it very much. My only real complaint with the kitchen line in general was the small size of the handles. This new knife appears to address that one fault (from my perspective) to make a much better using knife for my needs in the kitchen.

Are they in the marketplace yet (my local sources didn't have them)? What additional companion pieces are in the works? Are there any other relevant kitchen knife details you can share ;)

Hi Sid. The pair were an experiment in kitchen knives. We're planning on redesigning the kitchen line and this was one of the earlier tests.

We took the K04 "utility" model, strengthened the tip and made a larger handle. We kept the MBS-26 with the full flat grind (the best performer, IMO). The serrated version has an ebony handle and the plain edged version has a birch handle. The two are ideal in a kitchen and my wife and I use them constantly.

We only made a few hundered for testing. They are available now and you could probably get your dealer to special order them or contact SFO. Most dealers don't like to stock them because they won't be able to get more of them. We're not planning the test again. We'll use them as part of the core design for our redesigned kitchen knives. They come with two small plastic knife stands should you wish to keep them "out" instead of in a drawer.
