Hey guys,
I'm new here and was hoping you all could help me interpreret KY\OH\IN law regarding carrying a fixed blade knife in a vehicle? Here's the scoop...
I want to put together an emergancy bag that would remain in my truck. It will contain a number of items, one of which being a survival type knife (specifically a Gerber LMF II). I've gone through some of the laws and they are kind of vague to me.
I live in KY and the laws here state that any knife that is not either a "standard pocket knife" or a "hunting knife" is considered a "Deadly Weapon" and treated no different then a firearm. The LMF II only has a 5" blade but due to it's looks, I'm sure it would not be considered a "hunting" knife. I do have a KY CCW permit so I'm assuming that would cover me but the only thing that concerns me is, sometimes my wife drives my truck and she doesn't have a CCW (She's not opposed to it but I can't get her to buck up and do it already). So if she borrows my truck, gets pulled over and they search the vehicle and find the knife, can she be charged with having a concealed deadly weapon?
The other issue is; I work in Ohio and also sometimes find myself in IN and I'm not up to speed on their knife laws? I know my CCW is accepted in both states so I assume I'm covered there as well but again, if my wife takes my truck into one of those states and gets pulled over, is she(we) going to have problems?
