I've searched BF, but to no avail.

Where can I find some kyanite scales for a millie or PM2??

Thanks!

I googled it, it seems to be on the brittle side, I doubt many people make scales with it. Did you perhaps mean Kirinite?

Kirinite is a cast acrylic plastic that can be produced in a wide variety of beautifully swirled colors and flavors. It's touted as being tough as Corian and extolled for machining beautifully... however my experience finds it to be brittle and all too easily subject to shock fracturing... such as a with a drop of a knife. It also has a low thermal threshold which means it softens or melts when that temperature is exceeded with bit friction in high speed machining.

I abandoned the material as it was not suitable to my CNC operation.

Others have obviously had a different experience given some of the fine work product that shows up...!

That's great information, Steve. Appreciate the feedback!

In my experience with Kirinite it has been great to work with. Using basic hand and power tools, it shapes easily and polishes up nicely. When drilling pin holes in scales it is possible that the back side will chip out slightly, so drill with a sharp bit, keep it clean, and use light pressure.

I have 2 folders (Military and Para2) with Kirinite scales custom made for them, both with the Kirinite glued to a layer of G10 for strength. Pretty happy with them too.
