Kydex and JB Weld

Hello all,
I wanted to ask some of our kydex experts here whether JB Weld will bond to it. I have a cordura/kydex insert sheath (no, not Busse :)) that my knife just rattles around in. If I reform the insert, it'll be too small for the cordura sleeve. My idea is to slide a 1/16" sheet of aluminum in there, and secure it to the kydex, but I've noticed in the past that epoxy doesn't work all that great on aluminum. JB Weld does, but will it work on kydex??

Any help appreciated. Feel free to make fun of my sheath-fixing method too...

Kydex is a derivative of polyvinylchoride or PVC and also contains some acrylic. Not much really works on acrylic, and but a PVC glue will work....sort of. Suggest you try CPVC glue.

Some sheath manufacturers also use hot glue to secure Kydex inserts to nylon.

I suggest drilling a hole in the margin of the sheath and using a chicago style screw or a pop rivet to join the aluminum and Kydex.

I've had good luck reforming the inserts in several sheaths and just using epoxy to secure the insert to the nylon sheath... Might be worth a try.

Never tried to insert something into the plastic/kydex sleeve to make it tighter.

The chicago screw solution works well to keep the sleeve in the sheath as well, that's what i currently use.

Rattling occurs when the tip of the knife (which in a properly made sheath should be the about the only part in contact with the kydex liner) has too much playing room.

Stolen idea from another BFC thread. Sorry, can't remember whose idea it is: Take a little piece of nylon webbing and stuff it down into the bottom of the kydex liner with the tip of the knife. The webbing "nest" holds the tip in place when the blade is inserted into the sheath and prevents the blade rattling around. With this solution there's no need to disassemble the sheath or deal with the kydex/aluminum bond problem.

I have used Jbweld with kydex. From what I can tell, it is really strong and reliable.
