Kydex and wood handles

I've noticed that most of the Kydex sheath tutorials use a synthetic scaled knife for the demo. I want to make a sheath for a wood scaled knife, that has a guard. I understand that leather is an option. I'm guessing that the heated Kydex could scorch the wood. Is there another way around this, or does one just make a dummy knife out of metal and wood scraps, and use it for the bending?

I have done plenty of wood handles and no scratches. Just follow tutorials for the synthetic handles nothing changes. You can also do a single layer of tape on the handle to give it extra wiggle room, but I don't find it necessary on my wooden handles.

I've never had a problem with wood scales and Kydex. I don't think you could even get Kydex hot enough to scorch wood without it being ruined itself.
