The thing is...
I don't have alot of experience with kydex sheaths. But I do have 2 knives that use this type of sheath. Both of wich have super strong retention! I feel as though this strong retention is a bit of a hindrance. I do understand the importance of retention but the excessive strength is really turning me off of kydex.

Anyone else feel the same way?
Do they loosen up over time?

When I'm in the woods and I want to draw my knife to begin fire prep I don't want to struggle with it. I want to be able to draw, use, and sheath the blade convieniently(I thought kydex would do for me).

What is your preferred sheath material and why?

try pushing down the sheath with your thump you`ll be surprised how much difference that can make...

Kalan... I understand what your saying, I started working with kydex a couple of months ago. Nothing serious. First knife sheath took two men and a boy to get the knife out. The solution was to determine where the retension (spelling) was happening and either work that area with a heat gun, or file, or carefully remove material from the offending area. I'm also thinking rubber washers might be a high-tech solution.

Kydex can have as easy or hard a draw as you like. The weight of the knife, retention point, and whether it'll be carried in a way other than upright will be considerations, but if you want a light draw in a custom sheath just let the maker know.
