Kydex clips...

Up until recently I've been recycling a metal belt clip I picked up for my BK11.

I decided to start making taco sheaths for my knives and carry them horizontal/cross draw so that clip, while nice for IWB and pocket carrying, is pretty much useless for my new set of sheaths.

I was using a belt loop that came with my first Kydex kit that I picked up from KnifeKits.com, but I don't always wear a belt.

OK enough back story, sorry I tend to ramble.

I was wondering if anyone has made a clip out of kydex that is similar to the K-Bar TDI clip [amazon link]. Or know of anything that I can use for a clip like that.

Gonna try that out, doesn't seem to complicated. Will post results.

Cool beans, I've ripped through 4 sheets of Boltaron messing up sheaths for my S66, and my light... the scraps from those projects have gone into making different clip styles. My big issue is that I can't seem to get good or even decent retention. I should have posted that in the original post sorry.

Man this hobby is getting expensive lol

When I try out new things I make my prototypes out of paper, cut them out and fold them like I would fold the kydex. It's a good way to find problems before actually wasting good material.

For my clips I use .125 kydex for better retention.

Do you have any pics of the clips you've made?

Unfortunately not, but they're basically modified belt loops so they're not "pinching" they're just kinda hanging there, folded over.

The problem I'm having with my S66 sheath is that there's a ton of little bits that stick out of it, thumb studs and the like, I'm having an issue with creating a good channel for them to run in. The other thing is that I'm doing a "flat back" design, which is new to me, especially with all those bits that stick out. The light, well that I just plain messed up by taking too much off when sanding it...

I like your pocket clip design, I was thinking about doing something like that but in a V shape to make my clip. I'll have to order up some of the thicker stuff and try that. I've got some .090 Boltaron scraps that I'll try with

Anyways, tomorrow will be the first day this year that I'll be able to bend, I'll take some pics of the what ever clips that I come up with and let you know how it turns out.

This blows, I had enough time to get setup and do 1 press before the phone rang and I had to go into work... on my first day off since the new years... I'm not sure when I'll be able to revisit this but any input is greatly appreciated!

And thanks to all for chiming in, now I've got some tinkering to do in my spare time!

i don`t know if i get your question correctly....language barrier...:D
that`s what i do for clips the very few times that i make fixed blade Taco sheaths:

this one will take up to 2 inches belt
it`s horizontal/vertical and i am going to try and make one that can be worn canted too..
and that`s how i make them for my balisong sheaths:

hope this helps

That black one looks like what I'm trying to make, and after looking at yours it seems that I may be over engineering and way over thinking it...

Do you have some kind of jig for that? I was doing some youtubing while at work today and found that lots of folks use jigs... but their stuff really isn't what I'm trying to achieve... Yours is the closest thus far.

my first "jig" was a 63 cents wooden ruler from Lowe`s they are about 1.5 inches wide and about 1/4 thick...some guys also use the paint stirrers as my kydex bending needs evolved so did my jigs the last jig
i made, i can do 6 of the above clips in one shot
The clip Glockcrazz posted is simple and effective i have done few of those too mostly on my IWB sheaths...i have never tried them without a belt though...i think if you add a thump rump on the sheath it will work 100%

Spyderco G-Clip is an excellent way to go, though I'm prejudiced since I designed them for Spyderco. Attaches using screws and posts, so can be set up for vertical, horizontal, or angled carry, depending on the holes used. Also allows clipping to the waistband of "sweats" or running shorts without a belt. Can be retrofitted to any sheath using a mini-TekLok as well. Get them from Spyderco or me. I've always got a bunch on hand.
