kydex/concealex adhesive?

I am attempting to put together a kydex/concealex sheath for a knife but in an unconventional way. It requires that I use an adhesive or weld chemical of some sort. Does anybody know what to use to "glue" two pieces of kydex together? From what I've read there isn't much that works. Need some advice.

Thanks a bunch.

Jeff,
I've heard that pvc pipe glue found in any hardware store will glue kydex. The kind used to glue plastic drain and sewer pipe.

Hope this helps

I've been told, but haven't tried it yet that at the right temperature concealex seals to itself "seamlessly".
But, I've been told, this is not true of Kydex and this is one of the major differences between the two.
It's all rumours and hearsay.

Hey Guys...

Once and awhile I will make Non Mettallic sheaths for customs who want no metal parts on their sheaths.

To glue them i use a product call "Plastix" made by Loctite.

The Areas to be glued must be scuffed up with sandpaper and cleaned properly with the primer it comes with.

Works very well and the bond is stronger than the Concealex in ripping tests I have done.

Be careful not to get any on the concealex parts that show,, or it will haze up white...

Hope this helps..

ttyle Eric...

You can make a "welding" compound out of a 1 to 1 mix of MEK and Tetrahydrofuran (available from most any industrial chemical supply house or from Fisher Scientific). Mix the chemicals together and then disolve about 10-15% by volume Kydex shavings. The mixture of MEK and Tetrahydrofuran is the same chemicals that are in the PVC cement but the 1:1 mix seems to work better for Kydex (PVC cement is only meant to hold the pipes together in "shear" loading and not abending/torquing condition). Also the kydex shavings seem to help strength as well as making the color match your material better.

In my experience, if the bond is done correctly, the kydex itself will tear before the bond does.

Hope this helps...if you have any other questions drop me a line,
Cecil
