Hey Guys....
Fanis..
There isn't really that much difference...
The only real difference you will notice is a slight difference in texture....It is slightly softer..This has been done to prevent scratching...
I re-read this and made some changes..
Some of Newt's post can be a little misleading and the Specs really don't mean all that much...I won't argue with them specs are specs,,ya know...
The inferior products I think Newt was refering to was sheaths made solely from ABS and/or PVC sheeting....
Concealex is neither,,however is a blend of the two...
The same as Kydex is.Just a different recipe... a bownie is still a brownie,,unless its a hash brownie..
I agree with Newt that a sheath made from pure PVC and or ABS sheeting would be inferior..My own tests prove this easily...
However I do not know of a single manufacturer that uses only PVC or ABS sheathing solely for sheathing material..
I know it is used as inserts on some leather sheaths,,but only as a barrier, not a structural material...
There however are a host of injection molded products,,but Who knows what this stuff is..Some of it is Zytel...
The major players in the sheathing industry, Blade-tech, Edgeworks, Survial Sheath Systems,Tactical Tools, River City, and myself On/Scene Tactical all use Concealex, or now Boltaron as it has been reveiled, or maybe Kydex who knows.. None that I know of use pure ABS and or PVC sheet....Blade-tech does injection mold Concealex.
Concealex is a trade name of Blade-tech. One of the reasons we still use the name Concealex although it does belong to blade-tech, is to not cause any more confusion to the public.Theres enough confusion between Kydex/Concealex as it is...
Rest Assured that Concealex is a very high quality product, and in my personal opinion makes for a better sheath in both looks and function...
Put it this way,, if it wasn't good,,I wouldn't be using it...
To the end user, both kydex and Concealex make excellent sheaths and users shouldn't be concerned with lack of performance with either..
