Kydex dulling blades?

Has anyone tested the Kydex/Concealex sheaths with respect to them causing a dulling of the knife blade? I know that the material is softer then the steels but some materials seem to have an abraisive and dulling effect on very sharp blades. I have a Benchmade Nimravus in M2 steel and it seems that after I put a good edge on it that it dulls out a little from being in the factory sheath.

In a properly-made sheath, the sheath never touches the edge, just the flats of the knife. Of course, we all know (or can search for) my opinion of BM's factory sheaths. Why can't their sheaths be of similar quality to their knives (Nimravus == favorite production knife

M2 nimravus also....Do you have new or old model sheath? Is sheath clean inside..twisting of or dragging blade on the draw? ...these are things I would look for..Ive have no trouble with mine ..had it lil over a month.I also have the old model sheath..

Given that M2 is a non-stainless steel, it is possible that what you're seeing (depending on climate, and how long you leave the blade in the sheath) is slight corrosion of the edge, that results in a dulling effect. I've had the same thing happen to my 1095 REKAT Hobbit Warrior, after extended periods of storage.

Thanks all for replys.
The Nimravus sheath was a two part sheath. the inner part was covered with some kind of sticky back material to make it look like carbon fiber and the outer part was a kind of frame to contain the inner one. I think it was a very poor design so I removed the outer part and used the inner part as a liner which I covered with a good quality leather. The belt loop in the factory job was so tight I could not get even the thinnest belt through it. My leather belt loop is much larger and on the inside I put a strip of Kevlar to keep it in shape.
I do not think that the blade degradation was from oxidation but rather from particles of material during manufacture.
I agree, why can't they make the sheaths the same quality as their knives.

As e-utopia stated, the Concealex/kydex in a properly made sheath won't be coming in contact with the blade edge, so no dulling should occur. Eric at On Scene Tactical does do some excellent work and I'm sure that he's just as happy as I am with the way Benchmade makes their sheaths. Keeps us busy!

Muzzleup--I have the same problem with my M2 Nimravus. I can't stand that dulling scrape I hear every time I sheath and unsheath the blade. I end up not carrying the knife, instead I have it out of sheath on a shelf resting until I might need it. It's such a sad story, don't ya think?

Yes it is pretty damn sorry when a company makes a good knife but can't make a good sheath to put it in. I think that Benchmade should have Eric of ON/SCENE TACTICAL make their sheaths for them....THEN you would have a great combo of knife/sheath
