Good news for those who want to make their own Kydex sheaths and holsters. Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths is filming a new DVD called Kitchen Kydex. I have reviewed the rough cut and it is excellent. Mike shows how to make Kydex sheaths using only the basics everyone probably has. Mike shows from start to finish how to make a sheath and a pistol hostler including a mag pouch. The video also shows how to use professional tools if you choose to spend the money. The only tool I had to buy was an industrial heat gun. Any one should be able to make very good Kydex sheaths after studying this DVD. Mike leaves nothing out including some very useful tips and short cuts. This goes far beyond the mere tutorials that have been published.

Kitchen Kydex
An Alliance EXCLUSIVE Pre-Release Review!
Two DVD Set with Workbook From Mike Sastre
Available Soon From TRS Direct

Many of you will recognize Mike Sastre as the man behind River City Sheaths. For those who do not know him, Mike is famous in the knife world for his custom made sheaths such as the Southern Comfort that so easily allows large knives like the Bagwell fighting Bowie to carried concealed with great comfort. Seeing Mike produce a concealed 14" Bowie knife while wearing shorts and a t-shirt is like a magic trick...people don't believe what they just have witnessed. In short, he is a wizard when it comes to making carry systems out of thermoplastics like kydex and concealex.

SO, it was a BIG surprise when he told me he had just done a video revealing all of his tricks on how to make your own high quality kydex sheaths at home with a bare minimum of tools!

In this two DVD set, Mike shows you step by step how to construct four different objects including a generic tool sheath, a magazine pouch, a knife sheath, and a pistol holster. I was amazed at what great results can be had with such simple tools and materials. If you passed shop class in school you have all the skills needed to do this. Literally it is as easy as cut, heat, fold, and finish!

Starting with things like a little toaster oven, kitchen scissors, garden gloves, potholders and sandpaper Mike shows how the process of going from an idea to a finished kydex sheath happens. Just follow along and you will be on your way to making your own custom kydex in record time. He gives you all the little insider tips, tricks, and time-savers so you can get professional results without the trial and error.

(I was actually surprised at how many important little details on the process he revealed that will insure you get superior results like how to fine tune the sheaths retention while maximizing the draw speed. It was all stuff I had never heard before...guess the cat is out of the bag now!)

For those interested in getting more sophisticated with their workshop projects, Mike shows how to set up a vise to precisely mold kydex. It looks to be very simple and the high-definition results are impressive. He also shows all the "upgraded" tools you might want to get if you are serious about professional results, such as an eyelet setter, jigsaw and belt sander.

If you want to make sheaths for your own gear or if you make knives and want to be able to make the sheaths to go with them, then this DVD set is a must have.

Production quality on this one is top notch and Mike is very relaxed in front of the camera. His easy going attitude and good natured humor come across just like you were in the shop talking to him, and his enthusiasm for the topic is clear. Now I'm even thinking about trying some kydex projects!
