Kydex for 1271 Fighter...

I purchased the Ka-Bar 1271 "Fighter" a few weeks ago and just can't seem to fall in love with akward feel and fit of the sheath. I really enjoy the knife and want to carry it along on more occasions but would like to pair it with a nicer kydex or synthetic sheath. Does anyone know if Ka-Bar plans on producing a kydex sheath like the smaller 7" usmc, or if not does anyone here know of anyone that does...

Welcome to the KA-BAR forum and Bladeforums, Camper, glad you stopped in.

As far as I know, the new Extreme Sheath is their new "upgraded" sheath, but unfortunately, it doesn't fit the fighter. I'll check, but the specs say it won't, as the fighter has an extra 1" of steel.

There are some great, great makers here, on BFC, you can contact them about Kydex, Leather, or both. The ones that jump to the top of my list is Azwelke, Skystorm, MyWifeThinksImCrazy (Nix leather), Wildmanh, and many, many more. I'll point them this way, and let you guys sort it out.

I think for a knife like that fighter, I would want something kydex, but I do prefer leather on most of my knives.

What kinda sheath did you have in mind?

A fellow forumite did these kydex for my Big Brother (2211) and Tanto (1245). PM me if you want his info.

I new to the whole knife scene but have only recently started a collection of more quaility blades. I have the kydex sheath for my usmc but I'm afraid of the leather/nylon combination of the Fighter being subject to absorbing water where I live and use my blades most. I really like the style that qeth had on the tanto. I'm interested in securing it to a backpack strap and a tdi style clip. Thanks for the help guys

Sure thing. Stick around, there is a great knife world here, full of info, that might help you along your journey.

And be sure and show off that new sheath when you get it, I'd love to see it.

Both sheaths have eyelets spaced for tekloks or molle loks. Plenty of ways to lash it or secure it on your strap. I am not sure how the spacing is for the TDI clips, but if you're having a custom made, you can ask them to space it the way you like.

Good luck!

And I second the motion, pics of the finished sheaths!

EDIT: Some pics of the tanto without the tek lok:

I have switched out my original Kabar plastic sheath to the 1271 sheath for my 1245, it seems to stay sharper longer. BTW,I like the lines where you can see the steel under the coating on your Kabars blades Qeth. I would like my tanto to have that look, how did you do it? Or is it just from using it? Thanks.

Looks like he fisked it to me, Nice looking knife and nice looking Kydex Qeth

Thanks Nsvens89, you nailed it. Search "Fisk Sharpening" over at the Becker subforum, Mr. Fisk himself details on how to get a knife sharp enough "to shave a baby".
