Hi Sog lovers ...just got a Seal 2000, great camp blade...Anyone have an old style factory nylon sheath they might trade for a new style factory kydex one??? </font>
i went through this for a while... loved the knife, hated the sheath... now i wouldn't have anything but kydex.
it;'s that good.
i too use my seal 2000 for hiking and camping... even occasionally for roo shooting (that's kangaroo shooting for those of you from the northern hemisphere

)
and you will get used to the kydex.
use a haid dryer on the bit where the guard fits in. this will soften it slightly, and you can pull it out a bit to allow easier access to the knife. my wife couldn't physically pull the knife out of the sheath when i first got it... it was that tight, but the haid dryer trick works a treat.
to put it in perspective, i was recently in my local knife store, and saw the sog northwest ranger. being so impressed with my seal 2000, i was ready to pay the A$220 for it. the guy then produced the sheath, and it was an old nylon one... i asked him to check if they had a kydex one, but they didn't, so i said they could give me a call when they get them with kydex.
i really like kydex now, and wouldn't have nylon again if i could avoid it.
in short... use the kydex for a while, you'll probably grow to love it. if not, then there are plenty of places on the net where you can buy suitable Nylon sheaths for about US$20 - 30.
incidentally, how's the protective coating on your seal going? mine lasted about 3 weeks of use (including about a week of camping/spear fishing/cleaning fish) before it started to come off. Ron dealt with this wonderfully, offering to bead blast the knife, and to put a factory edge back on it, but i declined because of how long it would take to get to the USA and back.
