Would someone be willing to help me with something? I'm going to buy a Trail Master later this year when i'm back home in the States, but thats a long way off (mid-December) and i want to hit the ground running with this project.

I will be making my own Kydex sheath and here is where i need some help. I can read the dimensions of the Trail Master, but that doesn't really help with the overall 'shape' of the knife (i'm aware of model/age variations, but i can get somewhat close).

What i need is a photo-copy of someone's Trailmaster scanned and e-mailed to me. If the scan could be a 2-part image that would work best. This is so i can print each section of the knife and tape 'em together to begin making a pattern for my sheath.

When i finish the project i'd post pics and such.

HELP!!!!!

You'd better make sure that the photocopy is a 1:1 copy or else your sheath will be the wrong size and we don't want that to happen!!!

Thanks Safetyman!!! Yea, i'm hoping a regular photocopy will do the trick....

I'm hoping to get everything all sized up to be ready to order the Kydex, but i'm not going to go with a 'taco' style. I'm leaning toward a 'sandwich' style and add pass-through rivets, etc to add on MOLLE pouch(s), etc.

Back to the Community-At-Large - Any takers on some copy-making?!? Please??!?!!??!

Hopefully and thankfully,

Shameless plea....

I've never laid out a pattern. I just cut a needlessly big rectangle, press it, and cut off everything that doesn't belong afterwards. If you have the basic dimensions, that's really all you need. Just cut two pieces big enough to leave room for eyelets and a little bit more for shrinkage and good measure. If you start trying to do exact measurements and cut out pieces to match perfectly before pressing, you're going to end up with a migraine.

Thanks Kiah! I think you're right - at the end of the day, all excess has to be trimmed to 'spec'.

I'm needing an outline to know how much blade surface to account for as i try to layout rivet spacing for MOLLE components (and how much material width and length), attachment points, and other accessories.

By reading your sig line, i hope if you're in harms way you're faster and smarter than the opposition - keep a clear mind!!!

EDIT: I didn't see your advice about trying to pre-measure and giving myself a migraine!! Ha ha!! So true.... Anyway, i need the outline to so i can make/take measurements for a template/pattern. Any actual hole making (rivets/Chicago screws/other accessories/) will be done after the heat forming and adhesion process.

Use a 12" by 12" sheet. That is most often how the material is sold and it will be enough to make either a pancake or fold over with material to spare.

Roger that Grinder - though i'll prolly get a 12x24 sheet (actually 2 sheets for different thicknesses, same color) to be sure i have plenty of length to play with.

However, i'm still w/o an outline to begin the designing process. I know i'll have to trim excess, i just want to be able to make measurements and buy all the components (and determine which ones will work) before i get home so i can get started immediately.
