Warning to all you leather lovers... :p

I am starting to REALLY like kydex ... :D

this might be the standard sheath material out of my shop! I am really considering it for a lot of reasons. I LIKE leather. But working kydex does not require a $1500 sewing machine. And I can get all the kydex supplies dropped shipped to the house, which is a huge time saver. And it is faster, which means I can more and it requires less supplies.... Kydex has alot going for it... I will still have leather in the shop, but I may make it an upgrade option. :o

It's kinda fun too isn't it? :D

Looks like your doing good kydex work as well!!

I like it quite a bit too, wish I knew how to work it and where to get the supplies. I'd like to make myself a couple of horizontals for a couple knives and an inside the pocket sheath for a small one.

All I make are kydex sheaths. I don't see any reason to make a leather sheath.

those look great Mark... i like having the option of kydex, but still prefer leather...:)

I like both. If its for vertical carry its leather. If its for horizontal or neck carry than its kydex. Im still trying to find the perfect way to carry a small fixed blade in the pocket. Id love to find something in either that could be clipped to a pocket but dtill ride low.

I love kydex also. Thinking about trying to make a kydex sheath/cover for my DE razor for travel. This stuff has a lot of uses.

this MAY be the dumbest question i have ever asked, but would a kydex sheath be dishwasher safe? haha or could it be made to be?

the reason i have fallen in love with kydex (eventhough i am an oldschool guy to the bones) is how easy it is to clean....

my next hopes are a custom fillet knife with kydex (ever done one mark? please post pictures if you have... i clean maybe 100 pickerel (walleye to you yanks) pike, lake trout, and whitefish a week through the spring and summer sometimes. and hate wet, damp, bloody leather... kydex is the new wave for me.

also i field dress, clean and skin a lot of game and little critters and being able to rinse out kydex is a great asset to me over leather. just shake it around under water and a stream or lake and you're good to go haha.

Well I heat my kydex to around 300 degrees to form it. So my concern over using it in a dishwasher would be the dry cycle. Not sure how hot that gets. It might create enough heat to warp the kydex. I have several people that have asked for fillet knives. Sounds like something I need to do!

We do I get to go fishing with you? Lol

I like both Kydex and leather. It really depends on what the knife looks like as to the sheath. Some blades look better in leather, some in Kydex.

Well I may be biased but I'm a leather fan, personally. That said, there are a lot of great uses for Kydex when it comes to sheaths and holsters, and certainly from a pricing perspective Kydex is THE way to go for keeping down overhead for the maker. A sheath that takes me three days in leather could take less than three hours in Kydex.

ETA: Yes, I'm very slow.

What the heck is a pickerel? We call them walleye here too :)

Haha dang it. I always thought it was a Canadian thing or atleast a northen thing. Maybe fs just a northern Ontario thing bt everyone calls them pickerel here from haliburton to pickle lake. Kinda like calling grouse partridge
At any rate. Yes I clean atleast that Lang fish a week. I work in some amazing places where catching your limit maybe before breakfast or certainly lunch is t hard.
I need you to get on that fillet knife work. In kydex and in a bright colour and in stainless. For starters haha.
