I'm wondering if a Kydex sheath is better for my knife as I leave it in the sheath when not using. I'm thinking a leather sheath will hold some moisture or at least more moisture than even a treated leather and that may promote rust on my busse knife. Any recomendations? I plan to use my knife, wipe it off quickly and put it in the sheath. Thanks

While I have some really excellent leather sheaths, I NEVER leave a knife in them. The leather will almost draw moisture, it seems. Then there are the tanning chemicals to worry about. If I need to leave a blade covered, then it is kydex.

You need time for the leather to dry after it get wet, else you can damage the leather. The kydex just needs a quick shake and a blow out and you're good to go.

I guess the bigger question is what type of enviroment will you be using your knife in? I use my knives in the woods of Washington State where it is very wet here most of the year. Additionally the use they get I don't always have the luxury of wiping them down after each use. I choose kydex over leather for it's resistance to moisture, mildew and because of its stiffness and the ability to mount pouches, other blades etc...

I would highly recommend Okuden Sheaths for all your Kydex needs.

You've confirmed my suspicions. Jaxx you sold me a warden with a leather sheath you treacherous bastid!! And no you can't have it back. I like it anyway. Anyone have a kydex sheath for a fat, pumpkin, going to get used and abused and shown off to my friends, game warden? Cheap?

If your leather sheath is professionally made with quality materials/treatment it shouldn't be a problem unless you're in a very humid enviornment. I have satin/polished blades in leather sheaths (including Busse's) and the only one that I had some trouble with was a file knife....but it sat untouched in the leather sheath for about 4 years and it's a cheaply constructed sheath of cheap leather :p.....Busse's shouldn't be a problem.

I personally would NEVER store my blades in a leather sheath.. Especially double cut or satin ones...

LOL, treacherous... That's me! ;) ...You will curse my name once the INFI addiction takes firm hold of your... WALLET!! :D

Your sheath is an Armoralleather (Dwayne Puckett: AKA leatherman on this forum) pouch sheath. I've never had any problems with them causing rust on my GWs or ADs. I've actually never had a problem with any leather sheath rusting a Busse, but I do make sure that the sheath & knife are dry before storing. A bit of oil on the blade helps, too. ...However, if you're looking for kydex, try these guys:

Oku (Okuden.net)
Tom Krein (kreinknives.net)
Gravelface
Steelnut

There's a few more who make good kydex sheaths... Someone help me out and post who. My brain ain't workin' really well today! :o

If the knife is your main user or one of them, I'd suggest getting both a Kydex AND a Leather sheath :D that way you're set for any carrying situation ;).
