hi

i was wondering if the kydex sheath is worth the extra money for the kabar. it's about 10 or 15 more. i've heard things about them getting cut by the knife as you take the blade out. thanks

What k-bar are you looking at?
I have seen their combo edge knifes tear up the leather sheaths.
They just saw right through the side of them.
But I have a plain edge with a leather sheath that I have had for over two years and it is fine.(I use it alot)
Kydex wise, I can't really say how it will hold up long term because I have not used it much but it seems to work well and it was been taken in and out lots.
I would say go with the leather sheath if you get the plain edge and get the kydex if you get the combo edge.
But hey, what do I know, this is just my first post ;)

The kydex sheaths will last longer, but when they become damage or worn, are somewhat unsightly. The leather is fine for what its for, remember the leathers one have been used through three wars and running! (so to speak). I used one with the same leather sheath for almost 8 yrs that I was in the Military, even carried it through 6 months in desert storm and its still in one piece!! personaly I think the kydex is durable, but I do not think its worth ten, or fifteen dollars more when the lethter works fine.

Hey Guys...

It all depends on what you are using it for,,and how you want to use it...

Leather is fine for most things, it has its drawbacks, same as the kydex..They are just different drawbacks..

The nice thing about kydex is you'll find someone to make you a custom sheath easier than you will find someone to make a leather one.

Like I said all depends what you want to do with it...
