I've the various threads of people using various things from wetsuits, yoga mats,knee pads, and a myrid of other things and others just saying to buy the stuff from the site the provides the kit, but the engineer in me isn't happy with that sort of information, i would like to know what it is exactly....
as you can see here there are alot of different kinds all with different properties. (that's actually just a small sampling)

and beyond that, what makes some betters than others?
is softer better than firmer?
heat tolerance?
Chem resistance?
open cell/closed cell?
what am i shopping for here?
