Kydex question----how to do recurved blades?

I've got a big recurved blade coming in and need to do a kydex sheath for it. I'd much rather not remove the back of the kydex sheath (make a break-out sheath). Any suggestions?

Actually it is an interesting type. The tip end of the blade is wider than the base of the blade, near the handle.

Andrew-
If you don't get a satisfactory answer ask over on the CKD Sheath Forum - Frank Sigman, an expert on Kydex, has come on board as a Mod.

OK, now I understand. I have made a few sheaths for the blade type you are describing. I use a spine fold on my sheaths. For this type of blade, I usually just set my rivet out further from the blade. This makes for a wider sheath, but that can't really be helped. Then it just takes a little fine tuning on the mouth of the sheath and you should be all set.

I don´t know if this helps...I had the same "problem" and thought I just wanted to see if it would work in a regular sheath....a note is that the sheath is flat on the back leaving abit more room at the troat of the sheath.

It worked very well.

That is one heck of a great looking chopper! Yours I presume? How about some details/specs for it.
Thanks, Mongo

Hey Mongo..........!

Made that one for a good friend "in the south!" (Virginia)

Its made from 1/4 RWL-34. Blade is about 10" and overall is 15". The finish is brushed and then acidetched and brushed again. My friend asked for a rough finish so he wouldn´t mind using it rough.

The way I do mine is to leave the tape straight in the belly.
Using 5layers on each side of the blade. Mold the sheath and secure by taking the top of the sheath just to the begining of the scales. The straight tape line will show somewhat but so will the outline of the blade. Allows enough play to release smoothly and still hold securely.
