So I'm sick of my bk11 getting dulled after I put a hair shaving edge on it and w/o very much use getting considerably less sharp so I think I'm gonna get Kydex for all three of my Beckers. I've heard this issue is basically solved when using it for sheaths.

Anyway, which style is better, pancake or taco? Is it just aesthetic and cost of workmanship or is their any other advantage to be had especially in regards to protecting the blade while in storage?

I know I could have posted this in sheaths and such but I have seen many of you w Kydex and it seems to be a preference of many here, it's only Becker I'm looking to have sheaths made for and it seems like you've got a few well acknowledged makers right here in the BK&T sub forum.

It really is a matter of personal preference. Pancake offers more attachment options but taco is a little easier to pocket carry. I often carry my 24 in my front right pocket but my sheath is a leather Kelley Customs made by our very own Psyop.

If you need a recommendation for a kydex, just ask.

Skunk, my Bk10, lives in an Azwelke taco with a drop leg. VERY secure, I mean, I shook the snot out of it and the knife never budged. And no dulling issues. There are other kydex benders, but I have only tried Azwelke so far.

^^^ That is a taco style sheath. I much prefer the taco style. To me it looks more like a classic knife sheath. Pancake styles look a lot busier, but have more holes to thread stuff through.

I pocket carry an 11 and the taco style is also more suited to that mode of carry, as said above.

Just a heads up...AZ sells two different taco style sheaths. One for a BK-11 only and one for a BK-11 w/factory micarta. They are great. They also work well with a Tek-Lok.

Taco=smaller, lighter and less options on modding such as adding pockets, etc.

As far as storage, I use my knives and prefer to store them in the sheaths always because I go dumb sometimes. 95% of the times I have no problem with rust but the times I do it was my fault. Sometimes ya get to camping in the rain and stuff and stuff happens. Normally, I have never had a problem storing a Becker in Kydex for long periods. I do clean them as soon as possible and coat with a really really light coat of mineral oil. I live in the humid Ozarks and it works for me. You could use any oil, but sometimes I like to chop oak, wipe the blade and chop steak so I stick with mineral oil.
