Kydex Retention - Is This Normal?

I recently got a new kydex sheath for my Rodent Solution. This is my first sheath made out of kydex and I'm just wondering if the retention on this sheath is normal? I can't get the knife out with one hand no matter how hard I push with my thumb. Also it takes some effort with two hands to remove knife from sheath. I can understand not wanting the knife to fall out of the sheath while walking through the woods but I'd also like to be able to get the knife out of the sheath with one hand.

Here is a couple of pics showing knife in sheath. Is the kydex supposed to be split like that at the seam? It is not like that when empty. Thanks ~

Using two hands sounds like it's too tight. It's possible your knife is slightly larger then the one they used to make the sheath, or they make them on the tight side on purpose.

If you're VERY careful you can try to use a blow drier on high to loosen it up, just be careful that you don't over heat it or it will try to completely flaten out. Search on youtube for kydex sheath making videos to get an idea how the kydex works. There's a very narrow range where it goes from 'solid' to 'flexible'. If you're not ready for it you'll potentially ruin the sheath.

The splitting could be intentional as a way to hold the knife with spring pressure.

I popped the top rivet, spine side of my b2 sheath. Worked wonders for me. You could always get personal with your sheath. And file down some of of the parts. just an idea.

I agree with sonil. You should probably have the maker fix it to your satisfaction, because once you try to do it yourself you will have no recourse if it turns out badly.

...maybe before he goes postal on the sheath, he should ask the maker?

Great idea.

Looks like a Busse, or Swamp Rat, and there can be some variations in those. Though slight it can affect fit.
Best to contact the sheath maker.
