Hey, I was just wondering if anyone can give me some examples of hoemmade kydex sheath belt loops? I have a few ideas but not having worked with kydex before Id like to see a few..I was thinking of forming the loop and attaching it with chicago screws, something like that..I like tek-lok stuff but at $9+ a pop they are a bit pricey. Trying to keep prices as reasonable as possible, know what I mean?
Thanks

Hi - I do multi-position belt loops based on what I was taught by Alan Folts. You can see one here:

They are very simple to use, we cut black rubber tubing as a washer for a nice tight fit between the loop eyelets and the sheath.

If you've got any questions about it, I can answer in detail. One side is a threaded eyelet and one side is a screw.

That looks great! Thanks for posting it, looks like a really good idea.

Thanks guys. Not my idea, just another great thing I stole from the guy who taught me how to make knives :)

Here are two examples that I make. One is horizontal and the other is vertical but able to carry in multiple different positions.

There are many ways to make a belt loop but I have found this to be the most close fitting and secure method because the belt loop is formed AROUND the knife and is not a separate piece of kydex. TekLok are handy if you need a detachable system. However, teklok places the knife further away from its support point and is not as close fitting as an integral loop system.

For normal belt carry, try putting the Tek-Lok or molded belt loop on the other side of the sheath.

Non-traditional, but dramatically changes the way it carries.

When I carry a fixed blade, it's inside my belt, keeping the knife nice and tight against my body.

I agree. The Tek-lok style loops also allow for IWB carry, if one has such a need, and it's quite secure.

One of mine. You just form a belt loop, and then you use rivets (Chicago rivets) Along with rubber washers

I've been frustrated with how a Tek-Lok positions a side carried belt sheath pretty high on the hip. Experimented with my own version of kydex sheaths designed to carry the knife below the belt. Recently saw that "condahaw" a seller on the BladeForums knifemaker's gadget & gear forum has worked out all the bugs of "my" idea & perfected a really nice set up. The cool thing with the folded over the sheath loop is that you can take it off & attach any other manner of Tek-Lok or belt clip whenever you choose. Here is the link with good photos of condahaw's work: ESEE -3, -4 Sheath Drop Loops, AH1/ESEE-4 Sheath, CS TrailHawk Sheath, HEST Sheaths
