Kydex sheath. Fix the old or order a new one?

The original sheath that comes with the knife can be pretty bad, but I think bad kydex sheath in many cases can be turned into good kydex sheath. Material is usually the same (unless you want it thicker). The original design can be an issue, but it is rarely a total failure. All it comes down to is the "FIT". Lots of production kydex and some amateur custom kydex rubs and scratches the blade, difficult to put in or take out, etc. But usually the fit can be fixed with just some heat and some tinkering.

What are your thoughts? Do you just use the original kydex as it is, even if it doesn't feel exactly right? Do you modify the original or just order a new one? If you get a new custom kydex, what issues does it solve?

I'll usually monkey with the sheath that came with the knife. If I can get it just right where I have faith the blade is secure then that's that. If I need to, I'll make my own.

It depends. If it's just fit, I'll reheat. If it's the design as a whole, it gets scrapped for a whole new piece, probably in a different color also. The main issues solved are usually size reduction and carry options although fit will usually be improved on also.
