Looking fro something like this (it's carried on my pack)

gerb1.jpg

that one was made by sharpshooter some time back- I can't get an email though for some reason (if anyone has the correct email it would be appreciated)

anyone else offer something along those lines?

thanks

Mike

survival sheaths has them for the gerber/friskers.....knifekits.com has raw kydex and 1/4 rivets...very easy to make...i started out using a toaster to heat up the kydex...now have a press and heat gun

question (actually two :))- it looks like they have a hand tool for the rivets- I don't want to spend big $ on a press- will these work

also I have a heat gun- can you get by w/o a press (or make a reasonable replacement)?

thanks

You really don't need any kind of press if you're only making one sheath. I "press" my rivets by resting the factory rolled side on a hard surface (vice or anvil) with tape over said surface to protect rivet finish. Then use 3 different size ball bearings hammering gently (if you go to much to fast they'll split) about 3 blows each to flare the rivet out. Then once it's flared enough just use the hammer to tap the rivet flat. It will be rolled on the factory side and flat on the side you did but will function the same.
You could also just use a ball peen hammer if you have one small enough.

i meant a press for the kydex...i use a hammer and setter for the rivets...I then touch up the rivets with brass black...im no pro but have had good luck making a few things....knifekits.com has all the parts, worth looking at ...I wanted a pocket holster for a kel-tec .32.....it was $40 on line...I bought all the materials and tools for about that and have made about 15 for people at work
good luck
